Menopause

What is menopause?

Menopause is a natural transition that most women experience by the time they reach their late 40s or early 50s. It officially occurs when a woman hasn't had her monthly period for a full year. This marks the end of her reproductive years.

The lead up to menopause is called perimenopause. This phase, which can last 4-5 years on average, is marked by hormonal fluctuations that can cause symptoms like hot flashes, night sweats, mood swings, difficulty sleeping, and irregular periods.

So why does menopause happen at all? Menopause occurs due to natural age-related declines in the hormones estrogen and progesterone. These hormones are responsible for building up the uterine lining every month to prepare for a potential pregnancy. When the ovaries slow down their production, periods become less frequent and eventually stop.

That decline in hormones is what causes the various uncomfortable perimenopausal and menopausal symptoms. But the good news is there are treatments available at clinics like Vitality Balance Clinic. Their caring physicians know that this transition doesn't have to negatively impact one's quality of life. Vitality Balance Clinic specializes in hormone replacement therapy to help relieve hot flashes, restore energy levels, regulate moods, and ease the transition into menopause.

After the perimenopausal transition phase ends and a woman has no periods for one year, she has reached full menopause. At this point, symptoms may continue but often lessen or stop—especially with treatment.

While menopause means the end of fertility, it also ushers in a new phase of life with its own opportunities. Women can let go of birth control concerns and turn focus inward to their overall wellness, passions, relationships and contentment. With an empowering, positive mindset and good care like that of Vitality Balance Clinic, menopause can be smooth sailing!
